The Galaxy Fold is now official, as the first device announced at the Samsung Unpacked event in San Francisco on Wednesday. Samsung showcased the device’s final design as well as specs, price and release date details.
While we already knew that the Galaxy Fold features the Infinity Flex display, Samsung has also developed a “sophisticated hinge system” with a series of hidden gears so control the folding mechanism from the back end. This allows the 4.6-inch outer display to fold out into the 7.3-inch inner display.
App continuity allows users to switch from the outer display to the tablet-sized inner display with ease. Meanwhile, the inner display allows for multitasking with up to three apps, and the ability to drag and drop to the main window. Samsung users will also have special access to YouTube Premium.
The Galaxy Fold features 12GB RAM and 512GB UFS 3.0 internal storage. The device includes two batteries on each side for a total of 4,380mAh of power.
Camera wise, there are three lenses on the back, two on the inside, and one on the front, allowing users to have photo access no matter what mode, in which the device is set.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be available April 26 with a starting price of $1,980. The device will release in 5G and LTE models.
