Several Huawei smartphones are slated to update to Android Q, despite the enduring U.S. ban that has hindered a considerable amount of business for the Chinese manufacturer.
Huawei recently released a statement detailing that it has submitted 17 devices for certification for the Android Q update when it becomes available, likely in late-August. The company highlighted some of its most recent flagships, including the Huawei P30, and P30 Pro, among those it expects, will be granted approval to receive the Android Q update. The brand has also noted that its Huawei Mate 20 Pro has already been approved for the Android Q update, making it hopeful the other devices will also be certified.

- Huawei Mate 10 Pro

Reports also suggest devices from the Honor 20 series will update to Android Q. These include the Honor 20, the Honor 20 Pro, and the Honor 20 Lite. The devices had a somewhat unfortunate launch, being announced as U.S. restrictions were being put in place. The devices have been selling in China since late May, and are now beginning their availability in other international markets.
Google initially cut support to Huawei devices, in cooperation with the ban, but the U.S. government gave the company a 90-day reprieve to continue software support on its handsets. This is likely what has allowed Huawei to submit its smartphones for Android certification. However, many are still concerned that once the reprieve concludes in late-August, the manufacturer won’t be able to continue with the Android Q rollout or with support of G-Suite apps, such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Chrome.
Several sources claim that Huawei’s devices will have no issue maintaining their Google services after an over-the-air update to Android Q. At this point, only time will tell whether Huawei will prevail in keeping its devices up to date.
