The OnePlus TV is gearing up to be a major endeavor by the Chinese manufacturer as recent reports indicate the smart television may support Amazon Alexa in addition to Android TV.
The tech blog Smartprix recently discovered evidence of OnePlus TV supporting Alexa skill on Amazon India, clearly showcasing that the TV will be able to hear and execute commands, such as turning the OnePlus TV on and off, setting the volume, muting and unmuting, changing the channel, and changing the input. The skill would allow users to associate a command directly with the smart television, with commands such as, “Alexa, turn on OnePlus TV.”
OnePlus has already confirmed that its smart TV will be announced in India sometime in September; however, exact launch details have yet to be revealed. The brand, which is typically known for its affordable flagship smartphones has also dropped several hints that the OnePlus TV will be a premium product that won’t come cheap.
Other intricate details about the OnePlus TV has also been revealed, directly from the company’s head. CEO Pete Lau recently tweeted out an image of the TV’s remote, which clearly shows a Google Assistant button, as well as a volume rocker, a OnePlus Button, which may unveil some brand-specific features. There are also reports that OnePlus may tweak its version of Android TV in a way that may be adopted by Google.
The company is not skimping on display quality and some of the other latest news is that the OnePlus TV will have a 55-inch QLED display. The information was first tweeted out by a OnePlus regional vice president and later backed up via a OnePlus TV Amazon India product page.
The smart television will also support a 4K resolution and HDR playback through Dolby Vision. For audio, the TV will feature eight speakers able to produce 50W of output and Dolby Atmos sound enhancement.
Reports from Bluetooth Launch Studio suggest that the OnePlus TV may also be available in 43-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch models, but the 55-inch appears to be OnePlus’ product highlight.
Hardware-wise, details about the OnePlus TV processor have were discovered by @androidtv_rumor revealing that the may run a yet to be confirmed Mediatek MT5670 chip with a Mali G51 GPU. These leaks have also revealed the OnePlus TV nickname as Dosa (a South Indian savory crepe), which would fall in line with its initial launch in India.
Pete Lau has also tweeted about some design details on the OnePlus TV, including its Kevlar-style back panel, which is similar to some cases for OnePlus smartphones.
There are many details about the OnePlus TV that are yet to be revealed, such as the apps and streaming services it will support, how much it will cost, and how availability will roll out for markets including North America, Europe, and China.
