“Samsung Galaxy S11 leaks, rumors, and specs rundown; camera and battery highlights”

Samsung Galaxy S11 leaks and rumors are building up nicely as the 2020 flagship is about three months away from release. New details are surfacing daily and continuously suggesting that the smartphone will be formidable amid the next round of device launches.

Here’s a rundown of some of the latest potential features uncovered for the Galaxy S11 series.

Many Samsung Galaxy S11 camera details

The Galaxy S11 is expected to have a heavy focus on its photography and videography features, which isn’t surprising, considering the introduction of the iPhone 11 Pro. A recent report from XDAdevelopers APK teardown suggests that the device may include a number of new camera features, such as “Director’s View,” which would allow users to lock a scene in a viewfinder and select a subject for a close-up. With this feature, users would also be able to manually switch between lenses and potentially record simultaneously with different lenses on the device.

While this teardown leak is not specifically directed at the Galaxy S11, its uncovering at this time makes the included features highly likely for the upcoming flagship. Other detailed features include “Night Hyperlapse,” which could be an upgraded hyper-lapse feature for darkly lit areas. “Single Take Photo,” could give users suggestions and positive feedback when shooting a set of photos or short videos. “Vertical Panoramas,” may allow users to capture a panorama view image from a top to bottom perspective rather than side to side. “Custom Filter” may allow users to take the look of an image and turn it into a filter that can be applied to other images.

The report also reiterates the possibility of a 108-megapixel camera lens for the Galaxy S11, as well as 8K video at 30fps. Some have noted that Samsung’s recent launched Exynos 990 chip supports the video capability. We have also already seen the 108-megapixel lens in action on the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha and the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 (Mi CC9 Pro).

There has been heavy speculation that Samsung may also use the lens on its own devices since that launch. XDAdevelopers also discovered evidence within the code of Samsung’s One UI 2.0 beta software. Some are still convinced that the manufacturer may ultimately find an away to fit a high-resolution into a lower megapixel count.

Samsung Galaxy S11 Processor details

Recent reports also reveal specs of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, which will likely power several models of the Galaxy S11. It’s not surprising that details on the chip have surfaced, considering Qualcomm recently confirmed its Snapdragon Tech Summit will take place in early December. The semiconductor manufacturer will likely announce the component at that time.

Highlight features expected on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 include a 7nm EUV production process, eight cores, including one 2.84GHz A77 core, three 2.42GHz A77 cores, and four 1.8GHz A55 cores, an Adreno 650 GPU  at 587MHz, an X55 5G modem, a dedicated AI co-processor NPU, 8K HDR video support and LPDDR5 memory support. The Snapdragon 865 is expected to be at least 20 percent faster than current chips

Many have compared the 865 to other chips, such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ and have found it likely to be superior in terms of graphics and video encoding.

The Snapdragon 865 is also the 2020 equivalent to Samsung’s Exynos 990 chip. When the Galaxy S11 is released, there will likely be LTE models featuring the Snapdragon chip for markets, including the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and others featuring the Exynos chip, for Asian, Middle Eastern, and African markets.

Samsung Galaxy S11 model details

Reports also suggest the Galaxy S11 will likely be available in a device family of up to five different models, which may be dependent on whether or not they support 5G. Much like the 2019 series, Samsung may announce a Galaxy S11e, Galaxy S11 standard model, and a Galaxy S11+. Tech informant, Evan Blass detailed that there will likely be 5G and LTE models of both the Galaxy S11e and Galaxy S11, while the Galaxy S11+ may be a strictly 5G device.

The Galaxy S11e will feature a 6.4-inch display, the Galaxy S11 a 6.7-inch display, and the Galaxy S11+ a 6.9-inch display, according to Blass. All S11 models are expected to feature curved displays, whereas Samsung outfitted the Galaxy S10e with a flag display to differentiate its stance as a budget-friendly model.

The device displays are expected to have 20:9 aspect ratios and a new “SAMOLED” screen technology, which is likely different from its old school, Super-AMOLED displays. While the name was discovered in a patent by Let’s Go Digital, there are currently no details about the functionality.

Color option details have also surfaced for the smartphone models, with Ishan Agarwal revealing that the Galaxy S11e will likely sell in blue, gray, and pink options, the Galaxy S11 in blue, grey, and black options. Some suggest that the Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11+ color options may be the same.

Samsung Galaxy battery S11 details

A number of battery rumors have surfaced for the Galaxy S11 series, but many of them as not as solid as we would hope at this point. Reports from SamMobile suggest the standard Galaxy S11 (SM-G985/986) model may feature a battery around 4,300mAh; however, the source says these details should be taken with a grain of salt.

Still, the stats seem likely considering reports from the Dutch blog, GalaxyClub uncovered potential Galaxy S11e battery details from a certification site called Safety Korea. The page lists details of a 3,730mAh Samsung battery with the product code EB-BG980ABY, which would coincide with the Galaxy S11e model number SM-G980/981). Since the details are more specifically give the power figures as 14.36Wh and 3.85 Volt, some suggest the Galaxy S11e could have a battery between 3,800 and 3,900mAh. If accurate, this would be a significant power boost form the Galaxy S10e, which has a 3,100mAh battery.

The Galaxy S11+ battery could easily be the heftiest among the devices at approximately 5,000mAh, according to several sources. There have been no definitive details on this model, but with the Galaxy S11e details as a reference, these educated guesses may not be far off. The Galaxy Note 10+ 5G featured a 4,500mAh battery and the Galaxy S11+ is expected to feature a high refresh rate for its display in addition to 5G, making a high capacity battery quite the necessity.

Miscellaneous Samsung Galaxy S11 details

Some long-circulating details about the Galaxy S11 are that its codename is Picasso and its camera codename is Hubble. An homage to the famous space telescope, the Galaxy Galaxy S11 devices are expected to include features such as 5X zoom. Samsung has also filed a trademark for the term “Space Zoom” with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). This could be the manufacturer’s answer to such features as astrophotography on the Google Pixel 4. The filing details the Space Zoom functionality as “software to zoom in to a subject without lowering image quality.”

Actual release details have not yet begun to circulate but it would be fair to expect a late February unveiling for the Galaxy S11 devices. Samsung announced its 2019 flagships in the U.S. just days before the international tech conference, Mobile World Congress. In prior years the manufacturer would host its launch event at the conference proper. No matter the route Samsung takes for 2020, it is almost certain that the Galaxy S11e, Galaxy S11, and Galaxy S11+ will make an appearance in Barcelona.
