The Galaxy S20 series will be official as of Tuesday but Samsung has already shared a major teaser of another upcoming device, the Galaxy Z Flip.
The manufacturer aired a commercial during the 2020 Academy Awards Sunday evening, showcasing its clamshell-style foldable smartphone, which has already been leaked extensively ahead of the launch event. With the caption “Change the shape of the future” the commercial highlights images of the Galaxy Z Flip that fall in line with the many leaks that have surfaced in recent weeks and months. Samsung added to the commercial various shots of video calling features as well as purple and black color options for the device.
It also shows how the handset folds on its horizontal axis. This model differs from Samsung’s original Galaxy Fold handset, which bends on its vertical access. Many have noted that the commercial includes a disclaimer about creasing that may occur at the device’s bending site.
You may notice a small crease in the center of the main screen, which is a natural characteristic of the screen.
Several recent Galaxy Z Flip live leaks have also surfaced showing up-close details of how the display creases. While its functionality won’t be apparent until it gets into the hands of reviewers and then consumers, Samsung is expected to go above and beyond to protect the handset from damage. The Galaxy Z Flip may use a thin layer of glass, called Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG), on top of the foldable AMOLED display, in addition to a reinforced hinge.
Samsung is hosting its Unpacked event on February 11 in San Fransisco, California. In addition to the Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung will unveil Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra flagships, and the Galaxy Buds+ accessories.
The Galaxy Z Flip, in particular, is expected to release to market on February 14, potentially selling for $1,400.
