After an onslaught of leaks and rumors, Motorola Edge+ and Motorola Edge flagship series is now official. The Lenovo backed brand announced its new smartphones in a live-streamed “e-vent” Wednesday, showcasing the specs and features of its first premium smartphones in over two years.
The Motorola Edge+ stands out with a lofty $1,000 price tag and Verizon exclusive availability in the U.S. The device goes on sale May 14 for $41.66 a month for 24 months under the carrier’s payment plan.
Motorola Edge+ specs and features
The Motorola Edge+ is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip to enable both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G options as well as Wi-Fi 6. It features a 6.7-inch curved “90-degree Endless Edge” display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. Other hardware includes 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.0 internal storage as well as a 5000mAh battery with 18W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse charging.
Its camera system includes a 108-megapixel main lens with OIS, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, as well as a 25-megapixel front-facing camera. Color options include Smoky Sangria and Thunder Grey. The Motorola Edge+ may be one of the few flagship tier smartphones to retain its 3.5mm headphone jack at this point. It also features dual stereo speakers with Waves audio tuning. For software, the device runs Android 10.
Motorola Edge+ avalability
The smartphone will also sell in Europe, the UAE (Etisalat and Du), and Saudi Arabia (STC) starting in May as well as in India and Latin America in the coming months. Availability in Canada includes Bell, Rogers, TELUS, and Freedom Mobile.
Motorola Edge+ Verizon promotions
- Verizon is offering a discount of up to $550 on the Motorola Edge+ when trading in an old device and registering for a new line of service on select Unlimited plans.
- Customers switching carriers will also get a $150 Verizon, in addition to the above promotion, as well as a free Verizon Stream TV, an Amazon Echo Dot, and a smart plug.
- Current customers on select Unlimited plans can up to $250 on the Motorola Edge+ when trading in an old device.
Motorola Edge specs and features
The Motorola Edge comes with slightly truncated specs but also supports 5G, sub-6 GHz, in particular, with the help of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chip. It also features a 6.7-inch curved “90-degree Endless Edge” display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ but instead includes 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with a micro SD expansion, as well as a 4,500 mAh battery with 18W charging.
Its camera set up includes a 64-megapixel main lens, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens with Macro Vision, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. Its front-facing camera is a 25-megapixel lens. Color options include Solar Black and Midnight Magenta.
Motorola Edge availability
The Motorola Edge will launch first in Italy for €699 and then to other European countries in the following weeks. Other launch locations include Latin America, the Asia Pacific, and the U.S. in the summer, with pricing details to come.
