“Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Camera Could Feature 200-Megapixel Lens”

The Samsung Galaxy S22 could feature a 200-megapixel main camera when it launches in 2022, according to reports by the Chinese website IT Home.

Samsung is expected to unveil the lens itself this year, according to leaksters including Ice Universe and Digital Chat Station. The Korean manufacturer is set to host a Galaxy Unpacked launch event on April 28, where the component may be revealed.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is rumored to feature a 0.64µm pixel sensor. Samsung recently teased on its Exynos Twitter page, a 200-megapixel 6-camera set up, which still a lens capacity the brand has yet to tackle for the high-end. The latest Galaxy S21 Ultra has only a 4-camera set up. Only time will tell what the manufacturer has in store.

Rumors also suggest Samsung may partner with Olympus on the Galaxy S22 series camera, with the series including the standard Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus. The devices will likely launch during the first quarter of 2022.

Reports indicate that Xiaomi may be the first device maker to release a smartphone with Samsung’s 200-megapixel main camera lens. The Chinese brand was also the first company to release a 108-megapixel main camera lens after Samsung introduced that component in 2019. Samsung later added a 108-megapixel sensor to its Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphone in 2020.

Samsung has continued to update its 108-megapixel sensor into 2021. The company introduced its latest iteration in January, featuring 0.8µm pixels, which it says is theoretically able to collect more information.

Samsung uses a pixel-binning technology, which combines the data from several pixels into one super pixel. This allows the pixels to collect more light in low-lit environments.

Samsung also announced a new 50-megapixel ISOCELL GN2 sensor in February with 1.4μm-sized pixels. This camera may be features on smartphones that are just a step down from flagship.
