Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS is set to get a long awaited feature, picture-in-picture, for the YouTube app, MacRumors reported app on Friday.
Apple confirmed to the publication that the feature will be made available first to YouTube Premium members and then to all iOS users in the U.S. at a later time. The rollout for YouTube Premium members is currently under way. There is no word on when other iOS users will receive the feature.
The picture-in-picture allows users to watch video in a small pop up player. This player can work independent of a second app in the background. It is a multitasking feature that YouTube Premium members on Android have enjoyed for some time.
Media reports noted that picture-in-picture in support is a feature that have been experimented with in prior Apple software versions, including iOS 9 for iPads and iOS 14 for iPhones. Users developed workarounds for the Safari web browser that have often not worked well.
