The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE seems to have made its way through the FCC, with a host of details that make for an even more fascinating device than we have already expected.
A Samsung device with the model number SM-G990U was recently discovered to have been certified by the Federal Communications Commission. Pundits are associating it with the Galaxy S21 FE due to its similarity to the SM-G991U model number of the original U.S. Galaxy S21.
With that being said, the listing essentially confirms a host of important features for the upcoming device. If accurate, the Galaxy S21 FE could support mmWave 5G connectivity in addition to Sub-6 5G. In layman’s terms, this wide range of 5G support would allow the device to be offered by more carriers in the U.S. There are also differences in speed and efficiency between the two protocols.
The listing also revealed a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip for the Galaxy S21 FE, in addition to Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Wireless Power Transfer, and possibly also wireless charging. The device may also feature both USB-C 25W and 45W charging support but may ship with a 25W charging brick if it happens to include such accessories. Samsung has already begun phasing out charging accessories from many of its smartphones.
The Galaxy S21 FE is rumored for a launch sometime in August.
The device may feature a 6.5-inch Full HD+ with a 120Hz refresh rate, 6GB and 8GB RAM options, 128GB and 256GB internal storage options, a 4,500mAh battery, and Android 11. It is also expected to feature a triple rear camera with a 12-megapixel main lens, 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and an 8-megapixel or 12-megapixel telephoto camera, as well as a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. Other notable features may include an in-display fingerprint reader, IP68 rating, and stereo speakers.
Samsung has many other devices in its pipeline, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Watch 4, but these products are not expected to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy S21 FE.
