“Google Makes Pixel 6 Series Official Months Before Launch, Teases Tensor Soc, Cameras, and Colors”

Google has done a preliminary unveiling of its Pixel 6 series, showcasing the two models that are set to go on sale later in the fall.

The devices are the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, which Google shared images and some specs of on Monday, detailing that they will feature its proprietary chip called Google Tensor. The SoC blends artificial intelligence and machine learning to power the custom chip. The brand also teased that the component includes the Titan M2 security chip, which it said will give the Pixel series the “most layers of hardware security in any phone.”

Continuing the trend in the smartphone world, Google is also looking to revamp its camera system, which will be organized as a camera bar in the upper parts of the rear handsets. The Pixel 6 will feature a dual-camera setup, while the Pixel 6 Pro will have a triple-camera setup.

While both devices will have an aluminum frame, Google said the Pixel 6 will have a matte finish, while the Pixel 6 Pro will have a polished finish. With three color options for both models, the Pixel 6 has a blended color scheme, reminiscent of the Pixel 4 XL, and the Pixel 6 Pro is slightly more uniform.

Google also reminded users about the Material You design language it introduced for Android 12 at Google I/O in May. The software is meant to blend the power of the Tensor SoC with its own functionality and aesthetic.

The sneak peek specs Google has shared include a flat 6.4-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate for the Pixel 6, in addition to a dual, primary and ultrawide, camera setup, Google Tensor Chip, Android 12 with Material You, three color options, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Pixel 6 Pro is set to feature a curved 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a triple camera setup with primary, ultrawide, and telephoto 4x lenses, three color options, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Google did not give specifics about a launch date for the Pixel 6 series but given its release history, sometime in October may be a good timeframe. The brand has already teased the devices in its online stores in several markets, including AustraliaCanadaFranceGermanyJapanTaiwanthe U.K., and the U.S.
