The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to be one of the stars of Samsung’s August 11 Galaxy Unpacked launch event, and an up-close leak of one of its highlight features has surfaced days before its announcement.
Twitter leakster Thomasp5675 shared a press render clip of the S Pen Pro stylus, which is set to accompany the Galaxy Z Fold 3 as an accessory. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be Samsung’s first foldable with stylus support. However, it will be the second smartphone outside of the Galaxy Note series to support a stylus. SamMobile noted that the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which launched in early 2021 worked with an S Pen Pro stylus. However, Samsung is sure to add some upgrades to the new version that is releasing.
From what can be seen from the render, the S Pen Pro stylus features a white status LED, which could have to do with connectivity. Prior details have revealed the stylus will feature Bluetooth LE, which would allow the stylus to connect to a handset, and will power various Air Actions commands. Other reports indicate its tip measures at 0.7mm and can sense 4,096 levels of pressure. The S Pen Pro is also expected to connect to a USB-C port for charging; however, it was not immediately visible in the media render.
While devices in the Galaxy Note series have a stylus that is housed inside their chassis, the S Pen Pro is a larger stylus that stands separately from its handsets. It is possible that the S Pen Pro could attach magnetically to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 chassis for easy storage and carrying, similar to other devices such as the Galaxy Tab S7, SamMobile noted.
Currently, rumors speculate that Galaxy Z Fold 3 may sell with its S Pen Pro as an onboard accessory, meaning it would come in the box with the handset. However, whether brands will include or remove certain components and accessories, such as chargers and headphones, from their retail boxes has been a source of contention in recent launches.
In terms of styluses, Samsung is rather unique because the writing and functionality tool is rare in the mobile world. Still, while the Galaxy Tab S7 sells with its stylus included, the Galaxy S21 Ultra has its S Pen Pro as an external accessory, which sells for $39.99.
However, it won’t be long before we learn the truth about the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The foldable is set to be announced on August 11 alongside a host of other Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, and Galaxy Buds 2.
