“37 New Emoji in iOS 15.4 Developer Beta”

New emojis are now available with the iOS 15.4 developer beta, with icons including a melting face, heart hands, and beans, among others. The 37 new emojis are based on Unicode 14, which was unveiled last summer by the Unicode Consortium. In addition to the new emojis, there are also 25 color variations, which make for 112 characters overall.

Currently, only registered developers can get access to the emojis through the iOS 15.4 developer beta. Users won’t get access to the emojis until iOS 15 releases officially later this year. Media reports also note that iOS 15 will include such features as a Face ID upgrade, which will allow facial recognition to identify users while wearing a mask.

The Unicode 14.0 update has already made it to Android 12, with the operating system now actively rolling out to many major smartphone brands. However, iOS does notably have a much greater adoption rate overall than Android, version over version.

Apple’s iOS and iPadOS 14 operating system adoption make up approximately 90 percent of all compatible iPhones and iPads as of April 2021. Meanwhile, Android 10 and Android 11 respectively make up 26.5 percent and 24.2 percent of all device adoption. Overall, reports indicated that users updated to Android 11 faster than any other Android operating system version.

The current Android 12 operating system became available in October 2021, bringing Unicode 14 emojis, first to Google Pixel smartphones. However, the overall adoption rate of Android 12 might not be known for several weeks or months.

Rumors are now focused on Android 12L for tablets and foldables and Android 13 “Tiramisu,” the next operating system for smartphones.
