A recent leak has shown an up-close look at the Pixel Watch, weeks ahead of its prospective launch.
Tech informant, Evan Blass collaborated with 91Mobiles to share a render of the Pixel Watch, which is a tight, front-facing shot of the wearable. It also reveals some software features to be included on the device. The icons on the watch face indicate a heart rate monitor, step counter, and Fitbit integration.
The codename for the wearable is “Rohan,” and while there have been few recent details available for the product in terms of specifications, rumors suggest it might be announced alongside the Pixel 6a during the Google I/O developers conference, which takes place from May 11-12.
Prior reports indicate that the new leak is in step with leaks, such as those from informant, Jon Prosser, which surfaced last May. That render showed a more detailed image of the wearable, with straps visible, and the same curved design of the watch body.
Additionally, details extracted from a Wear OS 3.0 emulator by various developers last December uncovered a number of Pixel Watch watch faces. This leak first sparked the notion of Fitbit integration. It also revealed that the Pixel Watch might feature a Samsung Exynos chip, the latest version of Google Assistant, as well as Wear OS 3.
There has long been great criticism over the fact that Google has developed its Wear OS software for use on other wearables but has yet to make a smartwatch of its own. Rumors of a Google smartwatch have been longstanding, but it has yet to come to fruition. Now that the Pixel brand is well established with flagship tier smartphones of its own, Google might now see it as a great opportunity to expand further.
