The Xiaomi 12S series will be announced on July 4, culminating months of rumors about the device family.
The Chinese brand confirmed on the social media platform, Weibo on Monday that the series will include the Xiaomi 12S, the Xiaomi 12S Pro, and the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, and that the smartphones will include camera systems powered by Leica lenses for improved photography and videography. Xiaomi and Leica previously confirmed their “long-term strategic cooperation” in May, also hinting about a July launch.
Previously rumored to be a Xiaomi 12 Ultra model or Xiaomi 13 series, the Xiaomi 12S series is set to feature the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.
The launch event’s teaser image showcases textured green, blue, and white color options for the standard Xiaomi 12S model, in particular, suggesting a high-end design. The large camera module hints at an elaborate camera system.
The standard Xiaomi 12S is expected to feature a 6.28-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, RAM up to 12GB, internal storage up to 512GB, and a 4,500mAh battery, with 120W fast charging support. The camera system on the Xiaomi 12S is expected to include a 50-megapixel main lens, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a third 5-megapixel lens, in addition to a 32-megapixel front camera.
The Xiaomi 12S Pro is expected to feature a 6.73-inch 2K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a hole punch design for the front-facing camera, in addition to Gorilla Glass protection for the screen, RAM up to 12GB, and internal storage up to 512GB, and a 4,600mAh battery with 120W fast charging support, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. The camera system on the Xiaomi 12S Pro is expected to include three 50-megapixel lenses. The primary lens is a Sony IMX707 primary sensor with a 7P lens, f/1.9 aperture, LED flash, and OIS, while the secondary lens is an ultra-wide-angle. Details in the third lens are unknown. The front camera is a 32-megapixel lens.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is expected to feature a 6.73-inch 2K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a hole punch design for the front-facing camera, in addition to Gorilla Glass protection for the screen and curved edges, RAM up to 12GB, and internal storage up to 512GB, and a 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. The camera system on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is expected to include a 48-megapixel main lens, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 48-megapixel zoom lens, in addition to a 32-megapixel front camera.
Currently, there is no word as to whether the Xiaomi 12S will release outside of China, but if it does consumers might have to wait several weeks to months for that availability.
