While many reports about the upcoming Galaxy S23 series have focused on camera specs, recent news has honed in on a potential launch timeframe for Samsung’s upcoming flagship devices.
The brand might have plans to announce its new products during the first week of February 2023, according to the Korean publication Chosun (via SamMobile). The time frame would put the launch between January 30 to February 5. Insiders told the publication that Samsung plans to host an in-person event in San Francisco during that time. The devices are expected to release to market approximately two weeks later, around February 17.
Pundits have noted that Samsung has hosted its Galaxy S product launches much earlier than usual due to the uncertainty following the COVID-19 pandemic. GSMArena noted that the Galaxy S launch timeframe was previously in March. However, the Galaxy 21 series was announced on January 14, with sales beginning on January 29. The Galaxy S22 series was then announced on February 9 of this year and released to the market on February 25.
Some conflicting rumors are also circulating, which indicate based on Galaxy S23 model numbers that have shown up on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website that the devices could be announced before the end of the year. According to mysmartprice the device series might be announced on December 23 and released to the market on January 6. While no reports about the Galaxy S23 series unveiling or market release date can be confirmed at this time, the rumor of a December launch seems a lot more far-fetched than not.
Still, Samsung does have good reason to maintain an earlier launch schedule for the Galaxy S series. With a mix of slowing in the smartphone market and heavy competition, especially from rivals that will be announcing devices in the latter months of 2022, releasing the Galaxy S23 series in a timely fashion is likely of the utmost importance to Samsung. SamMobile noted that the brand mentioned during its Q3 2022 earnings call, its focus on increasing its market share of high-end smartphones in an effort to improve profits.
