OnePlus has several smartphones set to launch in the coming year and a new foldable could be among the devices in its 2025 lineup.
The brand introduced the inaugural OnePlus Open in October 2023 to impressive reviews. Since then, the industry has anxiously awaited its sequel product. Now, murmurs have surfaced revealing what we may be able to expect for the potential OnePlus Open 2.
OnePlus’ sister company, Oppo has proven very good at developing foldable smartphones. So much so that the OnePlus Open is a re-branded version of its Oppo Find N3, which sold exclusively in China.
The leakster Digital Chat Station shared on the Chinese social media platform Weibo (via Android Authority), details indicating that the next Oppo foldable, the Oppo Find N5 could be set for a launch in China during the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, the source shared potential specs, including a thinner and lighter design and IPX8 water resistance rating, providing protection when submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. This would be an upgrade from the IPX4 rating on the Oppo Find N3 and OnePlus Open, Android Police noted.
Other specs could include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, wireless charging, 50-megapixel camera with a periscope telephoto lens, battery life improvements, and an anti-fall body, the Digital Chat Station leak added.
Since the Oppo Find N3 and OnePlus Open launched simultaneously in 2023, there is potential that if the Oppo Find N5 is set for a first quarter 2025 launch, the OnePlus 2 may be as well. This would allow the device to be available for international markets, including North America at the same time as it is released in China. There have already been reports circulating with hints that Oppo and OnePlus were working together on their next foldables, especially noting that the devices may run a Qualcomm processor. Other reports have suggested elaborate camera setups and powerful batteries for the devices.
It is likely the biggest differences between the Oppo Find N5 and the OnePlus Open 2 will be the RAM and storage configurations and color schemes. There is currently no word on when the OnePlus Open 2 would potentially be available. No details on either device have been confirmed.
