Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 855+ as its latest chipset, which is a power boosted version of the current Snapdragon 855 platform.
While the semiconductor manufacturer has showcased the Snapdragon 855 as its first all-in-one 5G component throughout 2019, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ will be a chip with a focus on gaming performance.
So far, Asus has confirmed that its upcoming gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone II will feature the Snapdragon 855+ chip. Reports also suggest the Chinese manufacturer, Realme may also release a Snapdragon 855+ powered gaming smartphone.
Several sources have suggested many smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, the Google Pixel 4, and OnePlus’ late-year device could all be potential candidates for releasing with the Snapdragon 855+ chip. While unconfirmed, it is possible, considering Qualcomm has a history of releasing power-boosted versions of its flagship platforms for use in later year devices. The aforementioned manufacturers also all have an ever-increasing interest in mobile gaming.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ features the Kryo 485 CPU Prime with a clock speed of 2.96GHz, which brings a four percent power performance boost. Its Adreno 640 GPU brings 15 percent graphics performance boost. These appear to be the only upgrades from the original chip; however, by coupling improved power and graphics with 5G capability will likely make a significant difference to mobile devices intended for high-performance gaming.
