Google is launching its Continued Conversation feature for Google Assistant as of Thursday. The feature, will allow users to give tasks to Google Assistant powered hardware without having to say “Hey Google” or “Okay Google” before every command. With Continued Conversation, Google aims to make communicating with a Google Assistant product more like natural speech.

Continued Conversation won’t completely get rid of the “Hey Google” or “Okay Google” commands needed to activate a Google Assistant product; however, it is intended to decrease the need to say those commands as often if users have multiple tasks for their smart assistant.

So next time you wake up and the skies are grey, just ask “Hey Google, what’s the weather today?”… “And what about tomorrow?”… “Can you add a rain jacket to my shopping list”… “And remind me to bring an umbrella tomorrow morning”…“Thank you!” — Google

Users can close a conversation by saying Thank you, but a Google Assistant device will also determine a conversation ended after approximately eight seconds of not detecting any speech. After a conversation is done, users will have to say “Hey Google” or “Okay Google” again to start a new conversation.

Having showcased the feature at its I/O conference in May, Google has made Continued Conversation opt in and users can enable it by accessing Settings > Preferences > Continued Conversation within the Google Assistant app. If there are several devices on a single account, the settings will be applied to all of them.

Users can also review their interactions via the My Activity settings. TheContinued Conversation feature is currently available only for US Google Assistant users.
