“Verizon, Cricket, and Rogers set to offer low-cost Nokia smartphones”

Nokia smartphones are making a major return to the North American market with availability through carriers including Verizon, Cricket, and Rogers. First to release is the Nokia 3.1 Plus, which is available through Cricket Wireless as of Friday, while Verizon is expected to begin offering the Nokia 2 V on January 31.

Nokia’s parent brand, HMD tested the waters in the last year, releasing the Nokia 7.1 in the U.S. unlocked through Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H online stores, but collaboration with carriers indicates the company is serious about making a bigger presence, especially among American consumers. While flagship devices remain king in the U.S. consumers are feeling the squeeze of devices that greatly exceed $1,000. It is currently an interesting time for other device makers to try and repave the low-cost device market.

The Nokia 3.1 Plus sells for approximately $160, offering a 6-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chip, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a dual camera rear set up with 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel lenses, and an 8-megapixel front camera, a USB-C port, and Android Pie on board.

The Nokia 2 V is expected to be slightly cheaper than the 3.1, with a 5.5-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chip, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and 5-megapixel front camera, and massive 4,000mAh battery.

Device details and release dates for the Canada carrier, Rogers is not yet available.
