“Rugged smartphone Doogee S40 now available for $100”

The Doogee S40 is the latest rugged smartphone from the Chinese company, DOOGEE Hengtong Technology, which is now available through the manufacturer and on Aliexpress for $99.99. The device will soon also be available on Amazon.

Rugged smartphones are an interesting niche in the market. They have many of the features that make premium devices appealing to consumers, such as water and dust resistance and a large battery capacity but they also include reinforcements so they are less susceptible to physical damage. The Doogee S40 is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance, but it is also rated IP69K for resistance to extreme heat, cold, and close range pressure, and is rated for the MIL-STD-810G military standard, which tests devices in a host of extreme situations.

The device features a 4,650mAh battery, beating out many flagship models that exceed $1,000 in price. Its power metrics include 21-days on standby, 16-hours for gaming, 18-hours call time, 33-hours for web-browsing, and 18-hours for photography.

Other specs on the Doogee S40 include a 5.5-inch display with a 18:9 aspect ratio, a Mediatek MT6739 chip, 2G of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and Android 9.0 Pie. The operating system is a nice staple on the otherwise entry level device in terms of hardware, assisting in support for security features, including fingerprint unlocking and face recognition. Doogee also highlights the 4G connectivity, NFC, and three pinpoint GPS on the S40, due to the activity-based use cases for rugged devices.

Camera wise, the Doogee S40 features an 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel dual-lens camera set up, with wide-angle, beauty, bokeh, mono, night, and professional modes, plus a 5-megapixel. Design wise, the Doogee S40 is reinforced with a metal frame, while its corners and cover are protected with TPU plastic.
