“OnePlus 7T brings affordable display and camera upgrades as we await the pricey 7T Pro”

The OnePlus 7T is now official, having been announced at a launch event in New Dehli, India Thursday. Despite its vastly international unveiling, the OnePlus 7T will be available in the U.S. It will be a T-Mobile carrier exclusive and will also sell at OnePlus’ online store staring at $599 (Rs 37,999).

The OnePlus 7T does appear to be a fairly decent upgrade from the OnePlus 6T of 2018. At just a $50 price bump, we get a 6.55-inch display, which is a 90Hz Fluid AMOLED, similar to the specs of the OnePlus 7 Pro that released earlier this year. However, the 7T comes with a notch and doesn’t have edge-to-edge visibility like its older cousin. Certain apps will have black bars along the edges to contain whatever is being shown on the screen. However, video can get some edge-to-edge action. The OnePlus 7T is certified HDR10+ on Netflix and HDR on YouTube and Amazon Prime Video.

Hardware includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chip, 8GB of RAM and 128GB and 256GB internal storage options (the device runs UFS 3.0), and a 3,800 mAh battery with 30W fast charge. This capability should provide power from zero to about 70 percent in about 30 minutes. With top and bottom dual speakers, OnePlus has tried to make up for the 7T’s lack of a 3.5mm audio jack with Dolby Atmos surround sound.

The device will be available in Frosted Silver and Glacier Blue color options.

For software, the OnePlus 7T runs the Android 10 Oxygen OS, which brings a number of UI tweaks. For example, the in-display fingerprint reader on the device has a number of animation options for a unique flare.

One of the most leaked features on the OnePlus 7T was its triple camera system, which is now confirmed as including a 48-megapixel main lens with f/1.6 aperture, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.2 aperture and 1.0um pixels, and a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 117-degree field of view.

In addition to its now commonplace night mode, the camera also supports macro photography, which allows its lenses to focus a 2.5mm from a subject for detailed up-close shots. This is the main differentiator between the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7 Pro. For its front camera, the device features a 16-megapixel lens.

The OnePlus 7T will be available starting October 18; however, the manufacturer still has more to reveal. There will be a second launch event on October 10 in London, which may unveil the OnePlus 7T Pro. We will likely see what OnePlus has in store in terms of pricing for its Pro model. While the company has kept its promise that the OnePlus 7T would not break the bank, the OnePlus 7T Pro already stands as the brand’s most expensive smartphone to date at $699.

OnePlus’ old price increase was about $30, and by that trajectory could have the OnePlus 7T Pro start at about $699. With the OnePlus 7T receiving a $50 price bump, the OnePlus 7T Pro could potentially be even more expensive. Currently, we can only wait to see how the OnePlus 7T Pro launch unfolds, and whether that model will be available in the U.S.
