“Samsung and LG continue to push the TV tech boundaries as CES 2020 details surface”

While the tech rumor mill is overrun with Samsung smartphones, new details about the brand’s TVs have now surfaced. There are hints that Samsung may showcase a zero-bezel 8K TV during CES next week.

Various blogs including SamMobile recently discovered press renders of the 8K TV on Samsung’s splash page for CES. The Korean manufacturer is known for sharing the latest details on its television and home products during the Consumer Electronics Show so these details seem rather viable.

If accurate, the TV would likely be an update to the 8K QLED sets Samsung unveiled during CES 2019, which include bezels, albeit very thin ones. Last year’s show also featured Samsung’s 219-inch concept screen called “The Wall,” which highlights the manufacturer’s efforts toward seamless and bezel-less technology.

Many have noted that a zero-bezel 8K TV may similarly be a concept and not a product that is ready for market. Nevertheless, CES would be the ideal place for Samsung to showcase this technology, as many other top tech brands are set to do the same.

Other recent reports indicate that LG will showcase its latest rollable TV technology during the trade show. This concept is a 65-inch, UHD OLED display that rolls down from the ceiling; an inverted update to the 2019 concept that rolled up from an aluminum base.

Users will be able to pull the screen down and roll it up at their convenience to save space, according to Engadget. The brand likely opted to tackle this function because the original roll-up model does not include the ability to reorient its screen if it happened to be upside down. That may be a point of interest in future technology development for LG, but for now, a top-down approach will show the malleability of its flexible display technology.

The manufacturer is also expected to showcase other interesting display options that contour to fit unique spaces, such as its 55-inch OLED video wall concept for airplane cabins, among other display options intended to enhance the first-class flight experience.
