Las Vegas — Samsung has recapped a lot of its already well-known TV tech at CES 2020, but the brand still had an interesting showcase at its booth, which attracted a lot of patrons, even on the third day of the show.
Some of Samsung’s highlight products were its new 8K OLED televisions, which feature an infinity screen with a 99 percent screen-to-body ratio. The sets are powered by an AI Quantum Processor 8K to aid in boosting non-8K content to that actual quality. With Samsung’s Tizen software, the TVs include features such as Adaptive Picture, which will adjust the brightness and color of the set to match the ambiance of a room.
Many consider it may still be some time before 8K TVs really catch on as a consumer option due to the lack of 8K content available in the market. However, Samsung is already working with brands, such as YouTube, to align content with the technology.
Samsung has also added a number of sizes to its line of MicroLED TVs, which now include 75-inch, 88-inch, 93-inch, 110-inch, and 150-inch display options. The brand once again showcased its giant TV concept The Wall, to showcase the sheer prowess of its MicroLED technologies. Booth displays demonstrated potential use cases, such as stadiums or large cities; however, there remains to be seen whether the giant television would ever be a consumer product.
Samsung also introduced a new style of TV called The Sero, which is a vertical standing set that primarily displays content in portrait mode, instead of the traditional landscape. The new design is an attempt to appeal to younger consumers who are known to view content on their vertical oriented smartphones more than any other medium.
Samsung imagines that The Sero would appeal to such users who would want to display various social media on such a TV and easily have it show the same was it shows on their smartphones. Still, for the purists, the TV does do a neat trick of being able to rotate into a landscape view and back. Another interesting feature is that its bottom stand doubles as a speaker.
Samsung’s The Frame TV Samsung’s the Serif TV with design options for its reusable box.
Samsung brought back some of its older, yet still unique TV designs with a few new tweaks. The Frame, which is inspired by the look and function of picture frames, now comes in two new sizes, including 32-inches and 75 inches. The Serif TV comes in a reusable box that can be broken down and rebuilt into different objects, such as a coffee table, a video game stand, or event a cat house.
