Google has confirmed that its next smartphone will be announced on August 3. Currently, we expect the device launched will be the Pixel 4a, but we will have to wait just a few more days before Google confirms all of the details about the new device.
The tech giant recently shared on social media, a Google Store landing page, with a puzzle, which when solved, reveals the details of the upcoming launch. The other text is simply Latin filler text that is often used on staged webpages.
While there has been an amalgamation of details about different devices Google might launch, the most succinct leaks have been for the Pixel 4a. Recently, Evan Blass shared an image showing the device’s internal codename “Sunfish” and several specs details. A recent benchmark also revealed the Pixel 4a may hold its own power-wise. Other leaks include live hands-on videos and a wallpaper reveal, among many.
The Pixel 4a is expected to run a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chip, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB and 128GB internal storage options. It may feature a 5.81-inch FullHD+ OLED hole-punch display, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera, in addition to a 3,140mAh (or 3,080mAh) battery with 18W USB-C charging, a capacitive fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm audio jack, and Android 10.
There is also a rumor about a 5G model of the Pixel 4a, which may run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip.
Price-wise the Pixel 4a could sell for between $349 and $399. The device may sell only in a Just Black color option. A version called Barely Blue has reportedly been axed. The device is also expected to come in only one size with no XL model expected.
The Pixel 4a launch comes after a series of delays, starting with Google’s cancelation of its I/O developer’s conference due to the pandemic. The event typically takes place in early-to-mid May. Other proposed launch dates included May 22, June 5, and July 13; however, they all came and went with only more leaks to quell fan’s anticipation.
