The Xiaomi Mi 11 is now official as the first smartphone to run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. The smartphone is now available for preorder and will launch to market in China on January 1, starting at 3,999 yuan ($612). There are also European and global versions of the device are also set to launch at a later date.
The buzz around the Mi 11 was considerable, with many suggesting most details about the devices were still under wraps. However, industry insiders appear to have done a pretty good job at fleshing out details about the device before its launch. The Xiaomi Mi 11 features a 6.81-inch QHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, thin bezels, and curved edges, which is all the more impressive considering the device’s price proposition. The device has received an A+ rating from DisplayMate, for its 1,500 nits peak brightness and 480Hz touch response, in particular. The handset also features Gorilla Glass Victus and an optical under-display fingerprint scanner, supplied by the Chinese brand, Goodix. The component serves as a security measure, payment authentication, and a heart rate monitor.
Hardware for the Xiaomi Mi 11 includes 8GB and 12GB options of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB and 256GB options of UFS 3.1 storage. Its battery is a 4,600mAh cell with support for 55W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging, in addition to 10W Qi reverse charging. Despite its solid hardware, the Mi 11 was built thin and light with a weight of 196 grams and a width of 8.06 mm. It’s full dimensions are 164.3 x 74.6 x 8.1 mm.
Xiaomi has also confirmed the details about the Mi 11 charger. Standard models won’t include a charger brick in the retail box, as had been rumored. However, the manufacturer will offer an option with a 55W charger included at no additional cost for a limited time, after which the model will sell for an additional 99 yuan. So far, this option will be available only for the Mainland China market.
Leaks prior to the Xiaomi Mi 11 launch showed off its elaborate camera set up and now the brand has confirmed details about the triple-lens shooter, which includes a 108-megapixel main lens, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 5-megapixel telephoto macro lens. Some highlight features include 8K recording and a night video mode. Its selfie camera is a 20 -megapixel lens housed in a hole-punch in the display.
Other notable features include stereo speakers by Harman Kardon, 5G support, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2 with the ability to connect two audio headsets to the same device, NFC, and an IR blaster. Software support for the Mi 11 includes Android 11 with the MIUI 12.5 overlay.
Color options for the Xiaomi Mi 11 with a glass back include Midnight Gray, Horizon Blue, and Frost White, in addition to vegan leather options in Lilac Purple and Honey Beige.
While the base model 8GB RAM/128GB storage Mi 11 will sell for $612, the 8GB RAM/256GB storage model will sell for 4299 yuan ($657), and the 12GB RAM/256GB storage model will sell for (4,699 yuan) $719.
Xiaomi is also set to launch a Lei Jun Signature Edition of the Mi 11, named in honor of the brand’s CEO. This version 12GB RAM/256GB storage model, featuring 3D textured glass and a gift box packing with Jun’s signature. Pricing for this version is not yet available.
