“Huawei P50 Series Launch Confirmed With Camera Focus, Many Specs Remain Uncertain”

Huawei has confirmed that its upcoming flagship series will be announced on July 29.

The brand’s CEO, Richard Yu said on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that the Huawei P50 series smartphones will have a camera focus, detailing “digital imaging breakthroughs that surpass our previous mark” and promises “new breakthrough tech in mobile imaging.”

The Huawei P50 series is expected to feature the standard Huawei P50 model, the Huawei P50 Pro, and the P50 Pro+ all of which have been leaked and rumored over several months.

Some highlight features expected include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip and a Huawei Kirin 9000 chip depending on the model. Reports indicate the standard P50 model may get the LTE Snapdragon 888 chip, but it remains to be seen which chip will power the other two models.

Huawei has previously discussed that a combination of U.S. government sanctions and the global silicon shortage has made it a challenge to create and deliver components for upcoming devices. However, if an unveiling date is now set, we can only expect that the brand is now more confident in supplying its products. In early June, the manufacturer was notably not ready to reveal a launch date, while giving the public a teaser of the series.

Huawei has also confirmed its plans to outfit its devices with its own operating system, called HarmonyOS. It is expected that the P50 series will launch with HarmonyOS 2.0 on board.

Other features expected for the P50 series include a “waterfall” curved display with a centered hole punch for the camera front, a Sony-made 1-inch camera sensor, a 1/1.18-inch ultrawide sensor, and 66W fast charging.
