The Chinese smartphone brand Oppo plans to showcase many of its latest technologies at its upcoming Inno Day event, and the device maker recently teased on social media that it will unveil a self-developed retractable camera for smartphones.
Not much is known about the component so far, other than it is supposed to be water-resistant and able to detect drops and retract on cue. It’s prospective specs include a 1/1.56-inch sensor, f/2.4 aperture, and 50mm focal length, according to media reports. The model in the teaser has a dual-lens setup and guess is the pop-up lens could be a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 paired with an ultra-wide lens, similar to the Oppo Find X3 Pro set up.
There is also no indication as to whether the retraction will be functional, such as giving a device a propelled zoom ability. These aspects will likely be revealed at Oppo Inno Day, which takes place on December 14 and 15.
Other products expected to be revealed during Inno Day include a new foldable phone, which has been codenamed ‘Peacock’. This device is rumored to feature a 50-megapixel main camera; however, whether the camera is retractable remains unknown. Oppo will also showcase a new generation of augmented reality (AR) glasses, with the pair that was announced at Inno Day 2020 being one of the highlights of the event.
Some might wonder if Oppo will share any more details about its rollable smartphone, which was originally shown as a concept at Inno Day 2020. That device is codenamed ‘Butterfly’ expected to release sometime in 2022.
