The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is official as of Wednesday with the new models including the standard Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22 Plus, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra being unveiled. Using the tagline, “The Epic Standard,” for this series, Samsung has blended an eco-friendly promise and high-security levels, in addition to several feature updates.
Samsung detailed its promise to sustainability by announcing its use of 20 percent recycled ocean-bound plastic from discarded fishing nets on the key bracket of all Galaxy S22 series handsets. Device packaging is also made of 100 percent recycled paper, while Samsung cases are made of UL-certified eco-conscious materials.

Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus
The standard Galaxy S22 features a 6.1-inch FHD+ display, while the Galaxy S22 Plus features a 6.6-inch FHD+ display. The screens on both models have a max refresh rate of 120Hz, with a range of between 10 and 120Hz, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate when in game mode.
The Vision Booster feature automatically tunes the displays for lighting and color contrast, while each model respectively has a peak brightness of 1,300 nits and 1,750 nits. Samsung also introduces an updated ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for these devices.
Both models will include a 4-nanometer processor, which might vary by market. Some might get Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 chip, while others, such as western markets including the U.S. might get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.
Hardware on the devices will also include 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage configurations. Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy S22 will be powered by a 3,700mAh battery with a 25W wired charger and a 15W wireless charger and the Galaxy S22 Plus will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery with a 45W wired charger and a 15W wireless charger. For software, both devices run Android 12 with a One UI 4.1 overlay.
The camera set up on the Galaxy S22 devices includes a 50-megapixel wide-angle main lens, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens in addition to a 10-megapixel front-facing lens. Highlight camera features include OIS, VDIS, and a front portrait mode.
Color options for the standard Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus include Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Pink Gold, in addition to Cream, Violet, Sky Blue, and Graphite options, which are available online only.
Prices for the standard Galaxy S22 start at $799, while the Galaxy S22 Plus starts at $999. Preorders for both models start today, February 9, with the devices hitting stores on February 25.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
The Galaxy S22 Ultra has many similar specs as the standard Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, with its highlight feature being the introduction of the built-in S-Pen to the Galaxy S line.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 6.8-inch Edge QHD+ display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass+. The Galaxy S22 series are currently the only devices using this covering. Similarly, all models in the series feature an Armor Aluminum frame, front and back, which Samsung claims is its strongest material to date.
Hardware for the Galaxy S22 Ultra includes the same 4-nanometer processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, and 12GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage configurations. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with a 45W wired charger and a 15W wireless charger.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra also runs Android 12 with a One UI 4.1 overlay, with Samsun promising the entire series will be supported with upgrades for up to four generations.
The camera set up on the Galaxy S22 Ultra includes a 108-megapixel main lens, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 10x zoom, and a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, in addition to a 40-megapixel front camera. Some highlight camera features include an 8K video, and an expert raw app.
Color options for the Galaxy S22 Ultra include Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Burgundy, with Red, Graphite, and Sky Blue as additional, online-only colors.
Prices for the device start at $1199 with preorders starting today, February 9, and the smartphone going on sale February 25.
Samsung is also offering an extended YouTube Premium free trial with the purchase of a Galaxy S22 model.
