“First Google Pixel 7 Specs Leaked in a Slew of Codenames”

The first details about the rumored Pixel 7 series have now surfaced revealing that the smartphones might run a new generation of Tensor chip, paired with a Samsung modem. Additionally, there are new codenames circulating for both the devices and their components.

According to 9to5Google, the upcoming series, which will likely include the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will feature a second-generation of Google’s Tensor processor, the first of which was announced on the Pixel 6 series. The publication claims that the model number GS201 belongs to this new Google chip, as the model number for the original Tensor chip is GS101. There is also a codename “Cloudripper,” associated with the chip; however, 9to5Google believes that the adage might be paired more with an internal-only developer testing board than the component itself.

Additionally, details about the product’s modem were discovered by Twitter leakster Cstark27 not long after the release of the Android 13 Developer Preview. Once again, a model number “g5300b” a surfaced for a Samsung modem, which is believed to be a component for the GS201 chip. Previously, the Pixel 6 released with the Exynos Modem 5123; its model number is “g5123b.” So sources now believe the Pixel 7 will use the Exynos Modem 5300. There is currently not much else known about the component in terms of specifications.

However, 9to5Google has learned that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are likely being referenced as “Cheetah” and “Panther” internally. Meanwhile, the brand might have a third device, codenamed “Ravenclaw” for testing purposes.

The publication noted that Google had a similar strategy for the development of the original Tensor processor and the Pixel 6 series in 2021, using a Pixel 5 chassis with the specs of a Pixel 6 to test its new device. The tester was codenamed “Whitefin,” a mashup of the “Whitechapel” codename of the original Tensor chip and the Pixel 5’s “redfin.”

“Ravenclaw” suggests that Google might use the Pixel 6 Pro or “Raven” to test the features for the Pixel 7 series “Cheetah” and “Panther,” or wild cats with “claws”

The Pixel 7 series is likely months from launch, but there are sure to be many more details that will surface before then.
