“OnePlus Could be Next to the Foldable Market with August Launch”

After several hints that OnePlus has a foldable set to launch in 2023 a new rumor has carved out a more precise release timeframe for the inaugural device.

Twitter leakster, Max Jambor recently detailed that the OnePlus will likely be unveiled in August. This comes after the brand itself discussed its plans to release a foldable smartphone in 2023. First, it teased a Q3 reveal for the foldable during the OnePlus 11 launch in February. Even then many were hinting at an August timeframe, noting that the OnePlus 10T was also unveiled around the same time last year. Quickly following, the brand teased the upcoming device again at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and also had the names “OnePlus V Fold” and “OnePlus V Flip trademarked in China.

OnePlus is stepping into the foldable market at a time ripe with competition from several major players. Samsung is expected to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables early, in the July timeframe, instead of August to get ahead of competitors. Meanwhile, Google is also introducing it’s first foldable, the Pixel Fold on May 10. The device is expected to go on sale on June 27.

Seeing as OnePlus is sister companies with Oppo, which is somewhat of a staple brand releasing foldable phones, it seems that it was only a matter of time before OnePlus joined the market. However, early reports suggested OnePlus’ device might shy away from the commonplace design of devices such as the Oppo Find N2. The OnePlus V Fold model, in particular, is expected to be a “large screen” foldable with a resolution of around “2K.” Follow-up rumors have suggested that the device might have an 8-unch QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, among other features.

These specs include a 6.5-inch FHD+ cover display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a triple camera set up with a 50-megapixel main lens, 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, and 64-megapixel telephoto lens plus a 32-megapixel front camera with Hasselblad and MariSilicon X imaging support, an alert slider, quad speakers, and a 4,800mAh battery with 80W charging.
