“Google rethinking Pixel Tablet strategy amind profit concerns”

Google’s rumored Pixel Tablet 2 may be heading to the graveyard rather than to a next-generation launch.

Prior details indicated that Google was testing a prototype of the Pixel Tablet 2 with productivity-based features including an attachable keyboard cover. However, a source has now told Android Authority that the brand may be scrapping its plans to release a tablet in 2025 due to concerns that it won’t be profitable.

Android Police noted the first-generation Pixel Tablet, which was released in 2022 to moderate reviews sold for $400 when Apple had just slashed the price of its 10th-generation iPad to $350. The Pixel Tablet had a connectivity and entertainment hub focus, while the iPad is known for offering more well-rounded functionality.

The recent rumors surrounding the Pixel Tablet line suggested Google was looking to add more value proposition to the product, with productivity features. Notably, all details about the Pixel Tablet 2 remain unconfirmed by Google, so whether the device is still in development or whether is canceled is up in the air.

While not much was known about the Pixel Tablet 2 feature-wise, some rumors suggested the device would receive updates to its processor – likely to the current Tensor G4 or the rumored Tensor G5, and to its camera. Meanwhile, the outward design would largely be the same. As per prior reports, the biggest update would likely have been the keyboard cover accessory.

What was expected to be the Pixel 3 does not appear to be canceled and could still be set for a 2027 launch with a major feature overhaul, including a Tensor G6 chip, Android Authority noted.

Subsequent rumors suggest Google may be working to merge its Android and ChromeOS operating systems with the aim of competing with Apple’s iPad line. Details indicate the system would run on both Android tablets and Chromebooks and would meld the best of OS into one unified system. However, the software is expected to take years to develop, so there is no telling if or when it could be announced.
