Very little about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 has been left to the imagination with new leaks and rumors falling out of the proverbial closet with each passing day. The late-2019 flagship is shaping up to be a photography powerhouse, with even Samsung’s teasers for its August 7 Unpacked event hinting at various camera improvements on the Galaxy Note 10.
One of the latest rumors suggests the Galaxy Note 10 may include improvements to its telephoto lens, including an f/2.1 aperture, according to WinFuture. The tech blog SamMobile believes this could also equate to improvements in low-light imaging in the 2x zoom function of Samsung’s telephoto lens, which has been included in several flagships since about 2017.
The Galaxy Note 10 is already expected to feature a triple-lens rear camera system with a 12-megapixel standard lens, a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. Recent reports suggest the main camera may include a three-stage variable aperture function, which allows the lens to phase between f/1.5, f/1.8, and f/2.4 aperture. This would give mobile photographers more control options over the types of pictures they captured. Each aperture setting will allow the camera to take in different amounts of light, leading to varied results for photos.
The Galaxy Note 10 front camera is expected to be a 10-megapixel lens, which may also include a Night Mode, according to recent rumors. Though this report has been viewed with a skeptical eye, Night Modes for front-facing cameras do have precedent. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL both feature Google’s Night Sight function for both their front and rear cameras. With Google’s camera prowess being largely software-based, it is possible that other Android manufacturers could easily adopt similar features with the latest and upcoming Google software.
The Galaxy Note 10 is expected to feature Samsung’s Infinity-O display design, which places the front-camera lens in a circular cut out in the top middle section of the display. Many other device makers have soldiered forward in mobile trends, adding dual-lens front-cameras to their latest smartphones. However, Samsung has taken the opportunity to focus on improvement in image quality over several recent flagship generations. The multiple-lens rear camera setup is even a relatively new feature for the manufacturer.
The tentative market release date for the Galaxy Note 10 is August 23, with the device expected to start at $999 for its base model. The Galaxy Note 10 is expected to come in at least two models. These include a standard version, which may be more widely marketed, and a Galaxy Note 10 Plus/Pro version, which will be slightly larger and have extra bells and whistles, such as 5G.
