The OnePlus 7 Pro may not be official for another two weeks but since the Chinese manufacturer announced its May 14 launch date several details have surfaced about the next-generation device. All eyes are on OnePlus as the company has even taken out a four-page spread in the New York Times to advertise its latest flagship, simultaneously confirming that the device will not have any notches or bezels. The ad also showcases the internal schematics of OnePlus 7 Pro pop-up selfie camera.
Piggybacking this major promotion, the OnePlus 7 Pro has also already received a rave review from the mobile display benchmark, DisplayMate. Its tests have reportedly given the OnePlus 7 Pro a higher A+ rating than the Galaxy S10+ and the Pixel 3. Currently, reports indicate the device may have a QHD+ Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. This could put it on the map to compete in the gaming smartphone space, if not to simply provide a seamless, lag-free screen experience.
With considerable buzz around the OnePlus 7 Pro camera systems, we’ve also gotten several tests shots, courtesy of Wired UK. The publication was able to test out the device ahead of its launch and has also confirmed its 3x zoom feature, as well as reiterated the existence of its pop-up selfie camera.
Reports also indicate that the OnePlus 7 Pro was used to shoot the May issue cover of Harper’s Bazaar India. The OnePlus 7 Pro triple-camera setup is expected to include a 48-megapixel lens, a 20-megapixel lens, and a 5-megapixel lens. Standard, telephoto, and ultra-wide configurations are likely, but have not been confirmed.
Even though OnePlus itself has given up a considerable amount of information about its upcoming device, leaks still abound. Some recent sightings include one of CEO, Pete Lau out for a meal with a device that appears to be the OnePlus 7 Pro on the table beside him. The standout feature is the triple camera setup on the handset.
Another leak, shared by the informant, UniverseIce, shows potential display frames for the OnePlus 7 Pro, which suggest the device may have a curved-edge display. This design feature has become staple among many premium devices. More effort on the display of the OnePlus 7 Pro is also an indication that the company is ready to push the envelope on its devices price-wise.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is expected to be the company’s most expensive model to date with a significant price jump from previous versions. While consumers have seen incremental price increases of about $30 with each model, the OnePlus 7 Pro is could sell for about $750. In addition to its many majorly upgraded display and camera features, the smartphone will also be compatible with 5G networks, which will add to its cost.
There is also expected to be a standard OnePlus 7, which may be priced in a range more associated with OnePlus, however, that model will likely not have as many bells and whistles.
