“Latest OnePlus 8 rumors suggest wireless charging and videography improvements, as brand confirms Concept One design for future models”

The upcoming OnePlus 8 series may include wireless charging and videography upgrades among its highlight features.

Reports from tech informants Max J and OnLeaks indicate that the still rumored device family, which may include the OnePlus 8, the OnePlus 8 Pro and the OnePlus 8 Lite, might be the first devices by the brand to support wireless charging. OnePlus has foregone such features in the past in order to keep device prices lower. However, the cost of the brand’s smartphones has steadily increased in recent years. This could be a prime opportunity for OnePlus to add flashy new features to its devices to justify further price increases.

Currently, there is no word on whether all three prospective models will support wireless charging or if the feature will favor the more advanced models. The OnePlus 8 Lite is set to be a budget model for the 2020 series, which will likely cost less than the 2015 OnePlus X that sold for $249 during its market time. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7 Pro sold for $669 when it released last April. The standard OnePluus 7 was not available in the U.S. but sold for £499 (about $640) in various international markets.

OnePlus really started testing the waters of price increases with its McLaren edition devices. The current OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren sells for an eye-watering $899.99, while the standard OnePlus 7T sells for $599. We could see

Meanwhile, OnePlus has shared on its community forums, its extensive plans to improve videography support on its devices in 2020 and beyond. Here’s a rundown on what the manufacturer plans to develop on the cameras on its upcoming devices.

  • Tuning of exposure, color, and white balance.
  • More consistent autofocus.
  • Improvements in skin tone consistency and sharpness.
  • 4K stabilization for reducing noise and improving low light quality.
  • Dynamic range support.
  • Controlling light flickering.
  • Panning shots for smoothness.
  • A faster camera.
  • 1080P and 4K support for all lenses on a device.
  • Optimizing 4K recording while maintaining the current recording limit.
  • Improvement of single-hand use.
  • New video editing tools.
  • Pro video mode.
  • Implementing depth of field for telephoto camera recording.
  • Implementing zoom-in time-lapse.
  • Implementing reverse recording video.
  • Night mode support for night video.
  • AR emoji and stickers support recording.
  • Social media mode for streaming and editing directly to Twitter and Instagram.
  • Light painting mode won’t be developed.
  • Simultaneous recording for Wide and ultra-wide lenses for both rear and front cameras.

Following CES, OnePlus confirmed that the “electrochromic” glass technology features it demoed on the OnePlus Concept One will come to future devices. The feature makes the rear camera lenses on the device invisible for an even more streamlined and luxurious looking device.

There is no word on whether that device will be one of the OnePlus 8 models. However, OnePlus recently showcased an all-black prototype of the Concept One model. The original model is a yellow-and-black prototype based on the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren; however, future market models would be a great jumping board for experimenting with new designs and colors.
