“Limited-edition Patrón margarita smart coaster by Barsys now available for preorder”

Barsys, the maker of the fascinating robot bartender has collaborated with tequila maker, Patrón, to release a limited-edition branded version of its ‘smart coaster’.

The PATRÓN Margarita Smart Coaster by Barsys is currently available for preorder for $149 and will officially launch on August 26, with a promise that those who order before August 31 will receive their coaster before Labor Day.

The Margarita kit includes the Barsys smart coaster, two Patrón rocks glasses, a custom Patrón branded Tajín salt rimmer, a lime squeezer, and a and shaker. Notably, the actual Patrón tequila is still sold separately.

This collaboration piggybacks from the reported increase in alcohol sales amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though some bars and restaurants have reopened since the early lockdown days, more people are now leaning toward homemade libations, with online sales of alcohol having increased almost 500 percent as of late April, according to Nielsen data. Tequila sales, in particular, have spiked more so than any other spirit, with a 66.5 percent growth since the beginning of the pandemic.

With margaritas as one of the top summer cocktails, the two brands came together to have the Patrón classic margarita be the primary cocktail associated with this edition of the smart coaster.

Barsys first introduced its smart coaster in late 2019 as a simple and fun way for home bartenders to ensure they are using the correct ingredient measures in cocktails. This model is intended for those with small spaces, such as apartments, dorms, or hotel rooms.

Users must connect their smartphone to the coaster via Bluetooth and pull up a cocktail recipe on the Barsys app. Then they must place a glass or shaker on the coaster and follow the instructions, pouring liquid ingredients until being alerted to stop by a change in color on the coaster. For the Patrón coaster, it turns green when ingredients are sufficient.

The smart coaster follows the Barsys 2.0 complete cocktail making system, which launched in summer 2019 and can house up to five full bottles of liquor and several mixers. Similarly, the machine connects to the Barsys app, and with a glass or shaker placed and the beginning of the drink conveyor, the robot will expel the ideal measurements needed for the selected cocktail. This model is intended for homeowners who may live in rural areas and may favor having an extensive wine and spirit collection over frequenting bars and lounges.

With both the Barsys 2.0 and the original smart coaster currently sold out online, the brand has already benefitted from the increased interest in home cocktails.
