“AirPods Max over-ear headphones introduced to Apple’s audio lineup”

Apple has announced a new pair of headphones, the AirPods Max, which are already available for purchase and will begin shipping on December 15. In addition to a unique design and a plethora of specs, the over the ear headphones feature an eyewatering $549 price tag in the US. They will also be available to more than 25 other markets globally.

While many may scoff at the price of the AirPods Max Apple has included many features and perks to make its new audio product formidable among a highly competitive audio market. The headphones are powered by a 40-mm dynamic driver, which promotes ideal bass, mid-range, and high-frequency audio. The dual neodymium ring magnet motor also works to maintain harmonic distortion at any volume level. The H1 chips in each ear power Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, and spatial audio.

The AirPods Max appears to be proprietary to Apple products and is able to automatically pair with an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple Watch, or Apple TV connected to an iCloud account. They also support automatic switching and audio sharing between different Apple devices. Optical and position sensors allow for functionality shortcuts such as audio pausing when a cup is lifted. The headphones also work seamlessly for voice calls and with Siri.

The AirPods Max support up to 20-hours of battery life with Active Noise Cancellation and spatial audio enabled. Its Smart Case features an ultralow-power mode that maintains battery power when the headphones are at a full charge but not in use.

Design-wise, the AirPods Max features a knit mesh canopy housing its cups and a stainless steel headband frame, fashioned to evenly distribute weight and minimize pressure. They are available in silver, space gray, sky blue, pink, and green color options.

The AirPods Max joins Apple’s audio family, which includes the $159 original AirPods and the $249 AirPods Pro.
