“Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Continues Catering to the Premium Mid-Range”

Qualcomm has announced a new 700-series chip, the Snapdragon 778G, which is intended to serve more devices in the premium mid-range tier.

The chip follows last year’s Snapdragon 768G. It is based on TSMC’s 6nm node. Many are comparing it to the Snapdragon 780G, which also launched in 2020, using Samsung’s 5nm infrastructure.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G features a Kryo 670 CPU, Adreno 642L GPU, and Spectra 570L ISP among its main specifications. It also features an integrated Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF powering mmWave and sub-6 5G connectivity.

Its triple ISP focus gives the chip wide, ultrawide, and zoom capture capabilities, allowing for simultaneous recording from all three lenses. It also supports 4K HDR10+ video capture.

Its AI capabilities enhance use cases, such as noise suppression. Its latest Elite Gaming features include Variable Rate Shading, which helps developers keep visual fidelity high while regulating GPU output; and Quick Touch, which offers up to 20% faster input response when gaming.

More connectivity options include FastConnect 6700m, Wi-Fi 6 speeds (up to 2.9 Gbps), Bluetooth 5.2, and 5G, among others.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G is set to implemented into devices, which will launch starting in the second quarter of 2021. Smartphone brands, including Honor, iQOO, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, and Xiaomi.
