“Samsung Galaxy A8s releases without two popular features”

The Samsung Galaxy A8s smartphone is now official, featuring the Infinity-O display the company unveiled last month at its developer conference. Many have taken to calling the design a “hole punch display” as the screen features a single 6.7mm cut out in its upper right corner to house the front camera lens. This design allows all sides of the display to reach the end of the handset, erasing the need for a top notch. Still, the Galaxy A8s has a little bit of a bottom chin.

Most specs and details previously leaked about the device have turned out accurate. It includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip, 6GB, and 8GB of RAM options and 128GB of internal storage with microSD expansion up to 512GB, a 3,400 mAh battery, a USB-C port with adaptive fast charging and Android 8.1 Oreo.

The Galaxy A8s features a 6.4-inch display with a 1080 x 2340 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Reports suggest the display may be an LCD panel as opposed to Samsung’s usual AMOLED. This suggests that the process of cutting out a hole in displays could be expensive. The Galaxy A line is among the manufacturer’s affordable premium models, which keeps prices low by mixing some high-end and mid-to-low range specifications. Price details for the Galaxy A8s have not yet been made available.

Samsung has also removed the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Galaxy A8s, a move the manufacturer has long resisted on its flagship models. This could hint that future premium devices may also eventually lose their audio ports.

The Galaxy A8s is available for preorder in China until December 21. There is currently no word on when the device will officially release. The color options include blue, gray, and green, in a gradient design.
