“Google Tensor G2 chip based on Samsung’s 4nm process”

The Pixel 7 series is official as of last week and Google has confirmed that the new second-generation Tensor G2 chip that runs in both smartphones was developed using specs and technology developed by Samsung.

The processor uses the 4nm fabrication process that was developed by Samsung Foundry and also used the Samsung Exynos 5300 5G modem. As Google’s follow-up to the original Tensor chip, which is also based on Samsung-made components, it makes sense that the Tensor G2 chip has a similar collaboration.

The Tensor G2 chip is comprised of a CPU, GPU, ISP, TPU, security chip, and context hub. The chip is set to bring decent CPU and GPU performance upgrades over the 2021 Pixel 6 series with other feature highlights such as a greater focus on AI performance and security capabilities, SamMobile noted.

More details about the Tensor G2 specifications include its two 2.85GHz ARM Cortex-X1 CPU cores, two 2.35GHz ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores, and four 1.8GHz ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores, in addition to its Mali-G710 GPU, Google Titan M2 security chip, and second-generation Edge TPU. Its ISP upgrade allows for 4K 60fps videos for all cameras on both models, as well as supporting images up to 108 megapixels. The Pixel 7 series also comes with a number of new camera features, including Super-Res Zoom, portrait videos, and a new unblur photo feature.

The devices also have several connectivity features, including dual-frequency GPS, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and USB Type-C 3.2.
