“Late October release date confirmed for Huawei Mate 40 series”

Huawei has announced that it will unveil its Mate 40 series of devices on October 22, confirming launch rumors that have recently been circulating about the smartphones.

The devices will likely be the Huawei Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro Plus. Their actual market launch date is still unconfirmed, however, rumors suggest the smartphones will go on sale in China on October 30. There is no exact work word on an international release for the series, just some murmurs that European markets may see availability in 2021. A September Tweet from Huawei’s U.K. division suggests that the brand may have something in store for consumers outside of China.

Huawei CEO, Richard Yu shared the Mate 40 launch details on the Chinse social media platform, Weibo. The event will stream at 2:00 CEDT. The tease hints at a camera focus, with a shot of an eye or iris. So far, rumors suggest a camera setup, including a 108-megapixel main lens, a free-form 9P lens, a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom, an ultrawide lens, and a ToF sensor. There are also suggestions that the devices may have major telephoto lens upgrades.

Many spec details for the Mate 40 series remain up in the air due to Huawei’s various market bans and global supply chain issues. However, reports suggest the top tier model may feature a 6.7-inch waterfall display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while all three models are expected to run the HiSilicon Kirin 9000 chip.

Huawei was set to announce the chip at the IFA conference in early September; however, the brand left details about the processor out of its keynote. Still, the chip may be the first of its kind, produced with a 5nm process and powering 5G.

Other rumored features include a dual-sensor front camera, charging speeds of up to 66W, and Android 11open-source software with an EMUI 11 overlay.
